Different Genetic Structure
The same neurochemicals are processed by both, male and female brains. However, they are processed to different degrees according to the particular sex. Three of the more dominant of these are testosterone, estrogen and oxytocin. Males process more testosterone which is our sex and aggression chemical, due to which they tend to be more physically active and aggressive. Females process more estrogen, which helps them grow and reproduce. Additionally, they process more oxytocin, which is a bonding chemical in terms of relationships. For this reason, women are often more emotional when it comes to people they are close to. Women also produce more serotonin, which is a chemical that helps women sit in one place for longer. Men are more likely to be fidgety and prone to moving about.
Women Are More Prone to Depression and Stress
Women have been known to be more susceptible to PTSD and depression than men. Since they produce more oxytocin, emotional conflicts and situations tend to make them more stressed. Negative feelings affect them more strongly than positive do, and being empathetic may also mean that besides their own problems, they tend to worry or care too much about what others may be going through.
Men Have Younger Looking Skin
Due to the hormones and chemicals, men and women have very different skin structures as well. A man’s skin is about 25% thicker and tougher than a woman’s due to testosterone simulation. Men also have a higher collagen density than women. For this reason, a man’s skin is said to look 15 years younger than a woman’s, regardless of his actual age.
Women Have a More Developed Immune System
Females are born with two chromosomes while males have one X and one Y chromosome. While the female embryo is developing, one of the X chromosomes in each body cell becomes inactive. Research shows that this is due to the presence of genetic material in cells known as the microRNAs. These micorRNAs carry out the function of inactivating specific genes. Recent research suggests that genes that are regulated by testosterone found in males have the lowest antibody response. Scientists have found out that the higher the level of testosterone, the lower the reaction of the immune system to vaccines. Hence, the female immune system becomes more effective than the male.
Men and Women Experience Pain Differently
It is believed that men are able to tolerate pain better than women. However, women are able to raise tolerance levels during labor. In an experiment where men tried to experience labor pains using sensors on their bodies, none of them were able to go beyond the contractions part since they could not handle the pain. Therefore, men are generally better at coping with pain but the female body is more equipped to handle pain.
All in all, even with the same diet and routine structure, two individuals of the opposite sex cannot expect their health to be exactly the same. This is not just the case for men and women, but even two women or two men. Genetics, health history, body type and tolerance levels all count in determining how different each individual is from the other. That is what makes all of us unique from the inside out.
